Getting started

Your first hour: a practical checklist

The short list of records that makes a vault genuinely useful straight away.

You do not need to fill everything in. A vault with twelve accurate records beats an empty one waiting for a free weekend that never comes. Work in this order.

  • Home and contents insurance: insurer, policy number, renewal date, broker phone number.
  • Vehicles: registration, insurer, policy number, service history if you have it.
  • Banking and finance: which institutions you hold accounts with — not passwords, just where things are.
  • Medical: each person's doctor, known allergies, and repeat prescriptions.
  • Key contacts: attorney, accountant, plumber, electrician, next of kin.

Do not chase perfection

Leave fields blank when you do not know the answer. A record marked incomplete still tells someone where to look, which is the whole point.
