How categories work and when to use notes instead

Each category has fields designed for that kind of record. Here is how to use them well.

MyVesta groups records into categories — insurance, medical, finance, home, vehicles, inventory, contacts, estate and legal, pets, and shared lists. Each has fields shaped for the thing it holds, so an insurance record asks for a renewal date and a vehicle record asks for a registration.

When something does not fit

Use the notes field on the closest record rather than inventing a category. A note attached to the right record is findable; a floating note is not.

Naming records

  • Lead with the thing, not the provider: 'Car — Volvo V60' rather than 'Aviva'.
  • Keep dates in the date fields so renewals can be surfaced.
  • Avoid abbreviations only you understand.
